Native XET Compiler (NxET pronounced "next") is an XML Equivalent Transformation (XET) executor/interpreter written completely in Java. The motivation behinds this is to eliminate the need to translate all XML-based rules and clauses into the so-called Equivalent Transformation (ET)'s s-expressions in the classic XET. Debugging with s-expressions in Equivalent Transformation Interpreter (ETI) is troublesome and the intermediate clauses shown by the ETI debugger are very hard to comprehend. In addition, it is required that XET users might need to have ET as well as C++ knowledge if they want to extend XET built-in functions.

Goal

The goal of NxET is to create a reasoning environment that is pluggable into any network-based service system. Some new network-related features will be later added to enhance the current XET functionality. Like XET, NxET's syntax will be basically based on the classic version of XET specification (from now on will be referred as the classic XET specification). However, the classic XET specification will be re-considered and re-designed in several milestones. To avoid any confusion with the classic XET specification's versioning, the version number of NxET's XET specification will be restarted from 0.1 and so on. NxET's XET syntax will not be guaranteed to be fully compatible with the classic XET specification. The new features added may require the change of syntax as well as semantic in NxET's XET specification.
