My research traverses four fields:

- Natural resource management and environmental governance

- Philosophy of science

- Science and technology studies

- Practical ethics, including environmental, agricultural and food ethics

More specifically I have worked with the following topics and approaches:

  • Integrated Coastal Zone Management
  • Aquaculture governance
  • Place-based climate change adaptation
  • The science-policy interface
  • Post-normal science
  • Participatory approaches to mobilising knowledge in support of decision-making, including Deliberation Support Tools
  • Participatory approaches to practical ethics
  • Participatory and ethical evaluation frameworks for environmental governance and sustainability.
  • Citizen science

I do provide some limited teaching about both practical ethics and challenges at the science-policy interface, which has more recently been related to my research on mobilising high quality place-based knowledge to support adaptation to climate change.
