The Bioinformatics Platform N-Norge

The report delivered by the regional steering comity for Functional Genomics research (2002) concluded that Bioinformatics in Northern Norway needed to be strengthened.

Based on the report a Bioinformatics research group was established at the Institute of Medical Biology (IMB), Faculty of Medicine, University of Tromsø. The research group called Molecular Biocomputing Unit (MBU) was established in collaboration between the Molecular Modelling Research Group at the Department of Pharmacology, IMB and the Protein Research Group (PRG) at the Department of Molecular Biotechnology, IMB.

The research group has been given resources to build a Bioinformatics laboratory that will function as a common resource for the entire research community within Functional Genomics in Northern Norway. The Bioinformatics laboratory is situated in the MH-building (IMB).
