Dr. Seán McSweeney
European Synchrotron Radiation Facility
Dr. McSweeney studied Physical Chemistry at the University of Manchester, UK where he obtained his PhD in reaction dynamics. He worked subsequently at SRS Daresbury where he was responsible for the first beamline for multiwavelength anomalous dispersion techniques.
In 1995 he moved to the Grenoble Outstation of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory where he was involved in design and development of synchrotron instrumentation for macromolecular crystallography. He is now employed at the ESRF as head of the macromolecular crystallography group. This includes responsibility for seven ESRF beamlines. Dr McSweeney is also the leader of a structural genomics project that has progressed from genetic work to the stage where crystal structures of target proteins are emerging.
