Professor Bruce Patterson
Swiss Light Source and
University of Zurich, Switzerland
After a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, he helped to found the Muon Spin Rotation technique, with emphasis on internal fields in ferromagnets, muonium states in semiconductors and muon-decay channeling. He then lead the device physics group at the former RCA laboratory in Zurich, developing novel III-V semiconductor lasers. Presently, he heads the group which designed and built the Materials Science Beamline at the Swiss Light Source – a high-flux wiggler beamline for tomographic microscopy, high-resolution and high-throughput powder diffraction and in-situ surface diffraction. He spent an exchange year in Os i Østerdalen and is married to a Norwegian.
