Arctic Natural Resource Management and Agriculture
Are you interested in learning about use and management of the rich natural resources in the circumpolar areas?
|
|
The circumpolar areas have an abundance of natural resources: from the sea shore to the bare mountains, we find large and widely varying land areas, as well as distinctive, rich and some of the most untouched water courses in the world. This provides unique possibilities for diverse business development and resource use within agriculture, reindeer keeping, hunting, fishing, forestry and nature-based recreation and tourism. At the same time, the Arctic climate involves special challenges for sustainable resource management and use.
The University of Tromsø offers education in Arctic Natural Resource Management and Agriculture, which are interdisciplinary and based on supervised professional training focussing on the resource basis and opportunities in the north.

Sustainable food production and economic development, resource management strategies and the connection between harvesting, use and the protection of natural resources all play a central part.
This education is directed towards circumpolar areas, and combine an international perspective with focussing on regional challenges and priorities.
Knowledge about Arctic resource management and agriculture is best learned by practising it. During their studies, students will have laboratory exercises, cruise and field work, excursions, seminars and supervised professional training where they will encounter in “real life” the nature, business and resource management.
