It is a point of interest that the world`s northernmost botanic garden should have a collection of plants coming from the southernmost areas of the World. The main focus is on South America because more plants hardy for the Tromsø climate are found there and also because botanists at the University of Tromsø have studied the flora of southern Chile.
Calceolaria uniflora
Calceolaria biflora
Apart from the large number of attractive plants from these regions, there is also the potentially very interesting botanical and horticultural questions connected to the spectre of climate changes and global warming.
Oxalis laciniata
Oxalis adenophylla
Oxalis loricata
Among the wonderful plants from South America, look for species in genus Oxalis, Calceolaria, Calandrinia, Azorella, Chiliotrichon and Leucheria among others. From South Africa beautiful Diascia anastrepta and Felicia rosulata (synonym: Aster natalense) commands attraction and from New Zealand we soon hope to display a number of species from genera such as Celmisia and Aciphylla.
