Saxifraga

The Saxifraga collection was improved and expanded during 1999 and 2001. The Saxifraga Society and a number of its members are supporting the creation of a substantial collection, with emphasis on the most garden-worthy species and cultivars within sections Saxifraga, Ligulatae and Porphyrion.

In addition we hope to display all species found in North Norway and on Svalbard, as well as other arctic or subarctic species. Most of the construction work was finished summer of 1999. In 2000 finishing touches on the structure as well as new planting took place.

The new plants will probably start showing off their best from 2003 on. The Porphyrion-group species and cultivars will flower a short time after the snow melts and will be at their best from mid May unril early June. Species and cultivars in section Saxifraga will flower in the latter half of June while species and hybrids in section Ligulatae mostly will flower in July.
