Windbreak planting

Low mounds along the southern border of the Botanic garden are being developed as a collection of trees and shrubs, while at the same time serving to display plants useful as windbreaking vegetation. While the selection of trees and shrubs here have not been focused on special families or genera, it now appears likely that an increasing number of species of Rowans (Sorbus sp) will be planted.

Among the bushes and trees to be found here are several species of Lonicera, some species of Philadelphus and Deutzia, among others, as well as the remarkable flowering bush Weigela middendorffiana. Presently conifers are not prominent here: only a few Larix sibirica represent this group of plants, but this part of the garden will be complemented with some selected specimens of wintergreen conifers in the near future.
