The CASTL Affiliate Program
CASTL invites fellow researchers at the University of Tromsø to become CASTL Affiliates.
Background
Many people working at the University of Tromsø do research on projects within CASTL's scope. CASTL's Board of Directors has therefore created the category of "CASTL Affiliate" for people in this situation wishing to formalize their relationship to the center. This page has been created as an invitation to you to become a CASTL Affiliate. Please consider the information below, and if it fits you, then we invite you to register as a CASTL Affiliate (see below for instructions on how to do this).
Goal
The goal of designating an individual as a "CASTL Affiliate" is to make maximally visible all work being done at the University of Tromsø which contributes to the research program identified by CASTL. We want our funding organizations and other interested parties to be able to see all the research which is being done, and we want to make clear the extent to which CASTL is part of an active and stimulating research community at the Faculty of Humanities. In addition to the visibility issues, we hope that this formal designation can lead to closer research collaboration within CASTL and that it will make it possible to realize our goal of forming research teams for our various projects and subprojects. Furthermore, we want to create a formal means by which colleagues and Ph.D. students can access CASTL funds for support for their research activities.
Target group
The designation of "CASTL Affiliate" is restricted to people with a formal connection to the University of Tromsø, specifically employees of the new Department of Linguistics (faculty, post-docs, research fellows) and doctoral students (with or without stipendiat positions). Furthermore, the label is restricted to people who are carrying out research that is connected to one of the CASTL projects. In a normal semester, an affiliate will participate in a minimum of one CASTL activity, either a seminar that goes over the course of the semester, or one of the many reading groups that are running.
If your work fits with ours, please consider making that visible by designating yourself as a CASTL Affiliate.
Consequences
What are the consequences of being a CASTL affiliate? For CASTL, the main consequence is an updated record of the work being done in connection with our projects, and the opportunity to make that work visible. For you, the consequences are that
- you can more explicitly carry out your research in the context of this Center of Excellence,
- you will have a formal relationship to CASTL and thereby can present yourself as affiliated with the center,
- you can receive support for your research. This includes support for travel to present your CASTL-related research at international conferences, but also funds for research assistants, guests and workshops.
OK, how do I make this official?
If your position and research comply with the criteria above, please send a note to castl@hum.uit.no.
Welcome as a CASTL Affiliate!
