Description
Tobias Scheer will lead a discussion about
The phonology and morpho-syntax interface
"I'd like to throw the question of how OT, in its different incarnations, treats the interface with morpho-syntax: what is the general attitude towards modularity, the Prosodic Hierarchy, Indirect Reference etc. It seems to me that one fundamental departure from classical interface theory, which OT otherwise has taken over, is the fact that mapping is now done IN the phonology (by Align & Wrap), not in by special device that sits outside of the phonology and feeds it (with the prosodic tree). Hence Indirect Reference is tacitly abandoned, and modularity with it. It seems to me that this movement has been so general that OT-practitioners do not ask the question of modular borders or Indirect Reference anymore (while assuming modularity and IR in intro-sections)."
