Student Exchange and International Programmes
The University of Tromsø has a Strategy for internationalization and student mobility and encourages student exchange to interested students by offering exchange study periods abroad as an integral study component of the home degree programme. UoT has got student exchange agreements with more than 150 institutions all over the world. The majority of the exchange agreements are within the Erasmus, Nordplus, North2North and Barentsplus Programmes. UoT also has bilateral agreements with universities in Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
All regular students accepted into degree programmes at UoT have the offer to go abroad on exchange in the course of their studies. An exchange period usually lasts between 3 and 12 months. The courses taken abroad are recognised as an integrated part of the studies at UoT.
To be eligible for an exchange period, students must have studied for at least one year at university level. Students apply for exchange to the Department of Academic Affairs within specific deadlines. A complete application should include the following documents:- ECTS Student Application Form
- ECTS Learning Agreement
- Pre-recognition from the students’ department declaring that the selected courses will be recognised as an integrated part of the students’ education and that the exchange period will not lead to loss of credits or study time
For student exchange within the Erasmus and Nordplus programmes the application deadlines are 15 March (for exchange in the autumn semester) and 15 October (for exchange in the spring semester).
The Department of Academic Affairs is responsible for issuing Transcripts of Records and for sending the application material to the partner institution.
The faculties are responsible for issuing Proofs of Recognition to exchange students who have returned from their exchange period abroad.
All exchange students receive support from the State Educational Loan Fund. Students who choose to exchange with partner institutions within the ERASMUS, Nordplus, Nort2North or Barentsplus programme can apply for exchange scholarships.
Application Forms and general information (in Norwegian) on procedures, scholarships, partner institutions and practical matters are available here.
