Finnish studies
Years 1-3
The in-depth requirement in Finnish studies is 90 ECTS in years 1-3 and consists of the following components:
- 60 ECTS FIN-1000 courses
- 30 ECTS FIN-2000 courses
All courses are obligatory:
FIN-1010 Practical Finnish (10 ECTS) (Spring)
FIN-1011 Structure of the Finnish language (10 ECTS) (Spring)
FIN-1012 Practical Finnish II (10 ECTS) (Autumn)
FIN-1013 Structure of the Finnish language II (10 ECTS) (Autumn)
FIN-1110 Finnish literature (10 ECTS) (Autumn)
FIN-1210 Finnish and Kvensk culture studies (10 ECTS) (Spring)
FIN-2010 Practical Finnish III (10 ECTS) (Spring)
HIF-2012 Multilingualism (10 ECTS) (Spring)
FIN-2110 Literature theory and text analysis (10 ECTS) (Spring)
This line of study starts every 4th semester, for the first time in the spring of 2005, then spring 2007, etc. The course will alternate with Kvensk, which will be offered for the first time in the spring of 2006, then spring 2008, etc.
Years 4-5
In addition to the practical-educational training, which accounts for 60 ECTS, students must write a master’s thesis worth 40 ECTS (FIN-3940) and take the following courses:
FIN-3010 General fennistic (10 ECTS) (Autumn)
FIN-3111 In-depth study of Finnish literature (10 ECTS) (Spring)
FIN-3013 Finnish Language (10 ECTS) (Spring)
60 ECTS group
The following courses are obligatory in the 60 ECTS group: FIN-1010, FIN-1011, FIN-1012, FIN-1013, FIN-1110 and FIN-1210.
