Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law was founded in 1987 and is the most recent addition to the University of Tromsø. Its popularity resulted in restricted admission from 1990.

The Faculty of Law has research areas within private and public law, among others law of property rights and obligation, child law, social security law, criminal law, legal proceedings, law of inheritance and succession and legal philosophy. Areas of special interest are Saami law and the Law of the Sea.

The Faculty is authorised to grant Master of Law and Doctorates in Law. Research has shown that more than 65 percent of the faculty’s graduates have gained employment in Northern Norway.
