NCFS is also responsible for educating candidates for employment in the fishing industry and fisheries management.
The NCFS was established in 1972 with departments in Tromsø, Bergen and Trondheim. It was restructured in 1988 and is now at part of the University of Tromsø.
The college has six departments::- Department of Fisheries Technology
