Web-cast of the Snowstorm Teraflop upgrade
The installation started at 10am on November 10th 2004. In less than 4 hours, the HPC Group at the University of Tromsø with the help of NPACI-Rocks had upgraded the existing 100 Gigaflop system to 1 Teraflop, without stopping any of the running jobs. 3 hours later the system load was 73%. 45 jobs spanned 158 processors. The largest job was a 16 processor chemistry application (dirac).
The whole installation process was streamed live on the Internet. More than 750 different hosts connected to the web-cast and watched the installation during the day.
