Organic chemistry II
Emnebeskrivelse
Work Load 20 credits (ECTS) | Contents The course is a continuation of KJE-1002 Organic Chemistry. A series of new and important types of reactions will be treated, e.g. radical reactions, pericyclic reactions. The student will acquire a detailed understanding of organic reactions and their mechanisms. An introduction to the study of reaction mechanisms is given. The underlying principles for several central research areas today are introduced and discussed, e.g asymmetric synthesis, organometallic chemistry, solid-phase synthesis. | Form of teaching Lectures: 40 h. Seminars/exercises: 60 h. Laboratory: Four literature syntheses; (the laboratory will be open for two weeks)
| Compulsory teaching Laboratory course | Assessment Written examination, 5 h. Admission to the examination requires that the student: (a) has passed the laboratory course. A written report is judged pass or fail, and (b) has given an oral presentation (30-40 min) over a given topic.
| Examination semester Autumn | Date(s) of written examination 21.12.2005 The exam date is preliminary and may be subject to change. Definitive exam date will be announced on the notice boards at the faculties in the beginning of May for the spring semester and in the beginning of November for the autumn semester. | Type of course Theoretical and practical subject. | Level of course/Year of study First or second year at master's level. | Contact person/lecturer Department of Chemistry, tel: 77 64 40 80, e-mail: postmottak@chem.uit.no | Recommended reading/syllabus Available on request | Language of instruction Norwegianm, english by request | Course overlap K-230 -1 15 sp | Homepage http://uit.no/kjemi/emner/173
