Under the condition that the programme is finally approved by the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, the University of Tromsø will start a bachelor programme in aviation. The programme is under construction and final date for the start has not been set. The start would be earliest in 2008, most likely the admission will be during the spring semester 2008 for the programme that will start in autumn 2008.
The three-year bachelor programme in aviation is interdisciplinary and has as a goal to educate commercial pilots. The education will, therefore, give a broad and thorough training in operational flying. In addition to the obligatory requirements in connection to the Joint Aviation Regulation-Flight Crew Licensing (JAR-FCL), there is also training in skills that are demanded for the running of operations that are dependent on discipline and reliability. Therefore, Bachelor in aviation is a foundation that gives possibilities of holding other positions in aviation related organisations. The programme gives also good basic knowledge in science and technology, which can be used in connection with work or further studies. The students will also acquire knowledge in leadership and psychology, about both human reactions and limitations, and also how people interact in an organisation.
