Objectives and content
Based on an active research program we can offer a master's degree program in pure mathematics with specializations in differential geometry. Relevant master thesis in differential geometry is focused on mathematical physics, geometrical theory for partial differential equations, dynamic systems, symplectic geometry, almost complex geometry, invariant metrics and geometry of hypersurfaces.

If you’re interested, get in touch with professor Valentin Lychagin, associate professor Boris Kruglikov or associate professor Marius Overholt.

The table above is an example of a program in differential geometry.

Other relevant courses:
MAT-3100 Integration theory
MAT-3101 Functional analysis
MAT-3113 Nonlinear partial differential equations
MAT-3114 Algebraic topology
and other courses in mathematics at 2000- or 3000-level.
Special syllabus upon approval.

For further information on evaluation/examination/assesment, see individual course descriptions.

Student exchange
The Master's program is structured such that the student can spend shorter or longer periods studying abroad.

Qualification awarded
The master's degree program in mathematics qualifies for the Master of Science degree.

Access to further studies
The Master of Science degree is a prerequisite for admission to PhD-studies.

Professional prospects
Rescarch and teaching positions in the public sector and quantitative analysis positions in the private sector.

Program coordinator
The program coordinator for the master's degree program in mathematics is the head of the departmental administration Helge Johansen; helge@mat-stat.uit.no, tlf. 7764 5130.
