    Master of Health Science

A Master Degree in Health Science qualifies for teaching posts and for development work within health disciplines as well as for higher managerial posts within health care. The degree also qualifies for further research and research education (PhD studies).

Prerequisite for admission are a Bachelor or Cand. Mag. Degree, or equivalent, involving any one of the following basic programmes: nursing, physiotherapy, radiography, occupational therapy or mental health nursing. In addition, working experience is required. If a Methodology course (10 credits) is not included in any of the above mentioned degrees, these course will also be demanded.

The study is a two-year programme, including 60 credits of theoretical studies organised as one 20-credits module and four 10-credit modules during the first year, and a Master's thesis yielding 60 credits during the second. This programme can be taken on a part-time or full-time basis.

The five courses in the programme cover the theory of knowledge, ethics, body, disease and function, research methods, professional radiations and types of knowledge as well as health care problems and health care trends. The plan is to teach the two groups jointly for the purpose of promoting insight that will further mutual understanding and cooperation as well as interdisciplinary research. By means of open discussions and exchange of opinions, each profession's characteristics will be highlighted and elaborated.

In addition, one module is allocated to advanced studies within each student’s own discipline. Teaching takes place in groups for each of the health science professions represented amongst the students. An objective is to address important theories and issues in each of the disciplines, not least by studying central texts relative to the various professions.
