This course on religion and politics has a regional focus on Latin- and Indigenous America. Selected case studies and overview articles are aimed at offering a broader picture of empirical issues such as developments within and around indigenous movements, Catholicism, charismatic Protestantism and new religious movements. Local, regional and global perspectives and trends will be discussed. Special attention will be brought to the complex phenomena of globalisation, and local/regional responses to it, as well as religious pluralism and democracy, and religions and identities.
