Utfyllende informasjon

Objectives
The course will go into several theoretical perspectives on indigenous epistemologies and religious worldviews such as:
The appropriation of terminology like shamanism and animism; Relational epistemologies as a term for indigenous knowledges; Source criticism related to christianisation and colonization of indigenous peoples; Gender roles and religious taboos; Methodological perspectives on applying the "insider", "emic" or "native points of view".

Contents
The study of indigenous religions has been central for the theoretical foundations of anthropology and sociology. These theories are still used as classics in the study of religions today, albeit without much focus on the evolusionistic ideologies projected into many of them. These ideologies are often set aside and ignored, or if the concepts are considered too problematic to handle, such as "animism", they are simply abandoned in later research without much discussion. As an indigenous scholar I have found this unsettling, and I want to direct the question as to whether it is possible to apply concepts from the classical theories but with a new set of connotations, which is more in line with a post-colonial understanding.
