Diversity in Dutch DP design

Marjo van Koppen, Mirjam Rigterink, and Norbert Corver, University of Utrecht

In this talk we present our research project, dubbed "The Noun Phrase: Diversity in Dutch Design and the Design of Diversity". The project officially started in january 2005 at the university of Utrecht. The main aim of our project is to investigate and account for the diversity attested in the nominal domain in varieties of Dutch. We will focus both on older phases of Dutch and on Dutch dialects. Our project has three main focus points: (i) quantification and negation, (ii) DP-internal pronouns and (iii) the left periphery of the DP. In this talk we outline the various stages the project will go through. Furthermore, we illustrate the type of variation we will be looking at.
