We are happy to announce that UNESCO Center of Health is being founded in Tbilisi, Georgia. The Center will be open for partnership with interested relevant schools, organizations, etc. Legally, UNESCO Center will be foundation (NGO) and is considered to become a regional center of excellence for postgraduate training and re-training of health professionals, for life sciences research, and subsequently for advanced medical services as well. The similar types of UNESCO international institutions already exist in other Eastern European countries.
The administrative body of the Center will be recruited on contractual basis, as well as teaching staff. The Center will be represented by a number of schools and departments (School of Public Health, Department of Family Medicine, School of Health-related professions, School of Nursing). The Center will provide educational resources based mainly on information technology including distance learning as well as computerized medical simulators.
Participation of foreign partners both in administrative and teaching processes are of crucial importance, since all curricula will be based on advanced European or US schools' training programs. Also the important feature of the Center will be that part of the study period students will spend in partner institutions abroad for training, participating in scientific programs and earning scientific degrees. After graduation they have to work in Georgia at least two years (as contract requirement). The first graduates will be recruited as trainers at the relevant departments of the Center.
