Regulations for Student Network for Peace

Purpose:
Our main aim is to engage students at the University of Tromsø in promoting peace and creative alternatives to violence at all levels of society. We focus on wars/conflicts related to poverty, human rights, ethnicity, economical exploitation, environmental issues and more. We are independent of political and religious interests.

Name and affiliation:
The name of the union/network is Student Network for Peace. The union is a juridical independent unit. The Student Network cooperates with other unions and organisations in Tromsø. The Student Network is a member of the Network Against War, Tromsø.

Meetings:
At the beginning of each semester a general assembly will be arranged for all interested.
Here a workgroup is created, consisting of 10-15 members. This workgroup meets every two weeks at the University of Tromsø. The workgroup, consisting of members with varying fields of interest, organize and administer activities, like; seminars, cultural arrangements, film-arrangements, and maintenance of the web page. The meetings are held in English in favour of the international members of the network.

Membership:
The membership is free and is renewed each year. The Network has organized an email list for all who are interested – members and others. Information regarding arrangements or other relevant news, which the Network is involved in, is distributed through this list.

Roles in working-groups:
The Student Network for Peace has a democratic structure, without regular leader elected council etc. At the general assembly each year, roles and attachments to working groups, are distributed between the members, some according to field of interest, some more mandatory.

The Networks income is generated through “fund raising” arrangements, and through applications for support from other organizations and unions like; the Centre for Peace studies, the Student Council, Semut etc.

If the Student Network for Peace is terminated, any excess-money and other accessories on the union’s account, after all debts are paid- should go to the Centre for Peace Studies.

Changing the regulations:
If there is a wish to change these regulations it should be taken up on the general assembly, at the beginning of each semester. Approval of any changes demands 2/3 of the votes.
