About the Model UN

The UN-roleplay-program (MUN) popularity increases world wide. In 2001 over 200.000 students participated in UN-roleplays, by setting up conferences in 32 different countries.

The Institute for political science at the University of Tromsø, in cooperation with FN sambandet, arranges a UN-roleplay by setting up a 'Security Council' each spring.

Students play the diplomats of the 15 different members of the Security Council. They represent the perspectives of the different countries, discuss issues, makes lectures, propositions and so on.

This is a great way of getting to know the UN-institutions prosedures. It is a fun experience and you learn how these conferences work in practise. The participants gets a nice supplement to the theoretical University-lectures in many areas of the social sciences. The roleplay give you competance of participating in other UN-roleplays both in Norway and abroad. The UN-roleplay can be written in the participant CV (curriculum vitae), and this may benefit you in the work-market.
