FIL-2003: Existentialism Work Load 10 credits (ECTS) | Objectives This is a free choice subject within bachelor degree studies in Philosophy. It serves as a subsidiary subject for social science and humanities fields.
| Contents This subject places the main emphasis on thinkers such as Camus, Patocka, Læstadius and Zapffe, in the tradition of Kierkegaard and Heidegger. Here the main focus will be a discussion of modern society''s unforeseen and alienating effect on the individual''s existence and self-awareness. A number of philosophers describe the human situation in the cosmos as absurd. Others think that this experience of the absurd is not an end in itself, but a challenge of philosophical existence to become wide awake and aware of one''s position in society.
