FIL-2003: Existentialism

Work Load
10  credits (ECTS)
Objectives
This is a free choice subject within bachelor degree studies in Philosophy. It serves as a subsidiary subject for social science and humanities fields.

Contents
This subject places the main emphasis on thinkers such as Camus, Patocka, Læstadius and Zapffe, in the tradition of Kierkegaard and Heidegger. Here the main focus will be a discussion of modern society''s unforeseen and alienating effect on the individual''s existence and self-awareness. A number of philosophers describe the human situation in the cosmos as absurd. Others think that this experience of the absurd is not an end in itself, but a challenge of philosophical existence to become wide awake and aware of one''s position in society.
