FYS-2009: Introduction to plasma physics Work Load
10 credits (ECTS) | Contents
Prerequisites to this introductory plasma physics course are a good knowledge of Newtonian mechanics and electromagnetism corresponding to the courses FYS-1001 Mechanics and FYS-1002 Electromagnetism. The student should be familiar with basic vector calculus, ordinary and partial differential equations and preferably some complex analysis and Fourier transforms. The course provides the basic foundation for more specialised studies in plasma physics, cosmical geophysics and astrophysics. The subjects treated include: single particle motions in given electric and magnetic fields, fluid equations, fluid theory of plasma waves, and introduction to Vlasov theory. | Form of teaching

Portfolio assessment fo 1 oral exam (counting 80%) plus 1 mid-term test counting 20%.
