BIB-2010: Document organisation and forms of presentation. Work Load 10 credits (ECTS) | Objectives The objective is to give students a basic understanding of the principles of document organisation in libraries and of different forms of direct and indirect presentation, as well as elementary skills in cataloguing/classification and in different forms/techniques of presentation.
A further objective is for the students, in connection with BIB-2011 and BIB-2012, to understand the interaction between documents, document organisation and presentation, and political/administrative organisation. | Contents The course includes an introduction both to basic cataloguing and classification, and to presentation through the physical interior of libraries and through activities such as exhibitions, narrative and other forms of presentation.
Required previous qualifications/ courses: In order to take BIB-2011, it is required that DOK-1010, DOK-1011 and DOK-1012 are completed. BIB-2010, BIB-2011, BIB-2012 and BIB-2013 form an intermediate one-year component in document institution: library. This intermediate component is also offered as an independent one-year course. BIB-2010 can also be taken as an independent course.
Recommended previous qualifications/ courses: We recommend that DOK-1010 - DOK-1015 and one of the intermediate courses DOK-2010, DOK-2011 or DOK-2012 are completed. Furthermore, a good command of English is an advantage, since much of the literature is written in English. | Form of teaching This course is offered in the autumn semester.
The course lasts for 19 weeks. Teaching consists partly of meetings in Tromsø and partly of web-based teaching. There will be five meetings of the course during the semester, approximately every four weeks. The forms of teaching will vary, and lectures, seminars, project work, group work and web-based teaching is included. Guest lecturers from the library sector and from library-related cases are a central element of the course.
Language of instruction: Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish) | Assessment Methods of work and assessment and grading: The examination consists of two relatively short project assignments, one in presentation forms and one in document organisation, each of about 4-5 pages (approximately 600 words per page), or equivalent if non-written media are used.
The assignment in presentation forms is to be submitted no later than the day before the start of the fourth course meeting.
