BIO-1004: Physiology Work Load
10 credits (ECTS) | Objectives
Objectives of the zoophysiology part:
·To give the students an introduction to physiology by means of chosen examples, particularly from the realm of Arctic animals
·To give the students insight into physiological adaptation mechanisms for instance to low temperatures, varying conditions of light and availability of nourishment
·To give students an understanding of how it is possible to study animals'' physiological needs and the limits of their tolerance of environmental change
Objectives of the plant physiology part:
·To give students and introduction to the anatomy and physiology of algae and more developed plants
·To give students an understanding of the interaction between external environmental factors and the growth and development of plants
·To demonstrate some of the opportunities offered by biotechnology''s exploitation of plants.
| Contents
The course covers zoophysiology (animals) and plant physiology. The zoophysiology provides an introduction to physiology with an emphasis on regulating mechanisms in an integrated organism and responses to changing environmental factors. Plant physiology provides an introduction to anatomical, biochemical and physiological processes underlying growth and development in plants, as well as plant responses to environmental factors and climate. | Form of teaching
46 academic hours of lectures, 72 academic hrs of student colloquia/seminars (including talks and evaluations) and 40 hrs of lab-work, multiple choice tests; compulsory lab work; lab reports need to be approved prior to final exam. | Compulsory teaching

Første oppmøte er obligatorisk og felles for emnene Bio-1003, Bio-1004 og Bio-1005. Mer praktisk informasjon om emnene blir gitt da. Undervisningen i Bio-1004 vil foregå på MH-bygget og Avdeling for arktisk biologi i uke 37-43 og på Naturfagsbygget i uke 43-48.
