Students will be given a point of departure from which to be able to take a critical stand to research and theoretical developments in their own disciplines. The course consider what it means to explore professional knowledge in a scientific way. Central schools within ethics - such as virtue-based ethics, utilitarianism, and relational ethics - will be highlighted and linked with the scientific basis of the disciplines, as well as with tradition and practical situations.

1 b. Body, disease and function; various perspectives
An understanding of the body, disease and function is essential for health care disciplines in the way which they which they interpret these phenomena. Various interpretations are viewed in their ethical, cultural and social contexts while at the same time, specific physical phenomena that an individual may experience are discussed. An attempt is made to understand the body, disease and function in terms of ethnicity, gender and age.
