Objectives
The students will become more knowledgeable and conscious of the language use in different Saami texts, and will learn different methods of analysis. To express oneself and be conscious of one´s own usage is a vital part of all professional contexts as well as many societal contexts. The student will also acquire skills in the production of academic texts. The course should be of special interest to journalists, culture workers, language teachers and translators.
Contents
To study and make assessments of Saami texts from different genres and ages, and use different methods and approaches to analyse what distinguishes communication and verbal devices within different styles. The module will also comprise a practical aspect where the student will train his/her own usage. In the practical part, the writing of professional texts is particularly emphasised.
Form of teaching
Teaching is offered in the form of lectures and seminars. There will be three gatherings during the semester. During the lecture-free periods, students will work at producing their own academic texts.
Coursework requirements

Faglig tekst på 5-7 sider som legges fram på et seminar.
Exam and assessment
The students are required to submit an academic text of 5-7 pages (one page equals 2000 characters) (cf. form of evaluation) and present the text at a seminar. The topic of the text is determined in consultation with the course teacher. In addition, the student is required to hand in two written assignments of a couple of pages each on assigned topics. The assignments must be submitted at appointed times and must be approved in order for the student to qualify for taking the exam.
