MONTHLY REPORT

This report deals with the activities ran from the 26th October to the 20th of November 2006. It was a kind of low period when we had not much events, except the open market, the joint party and the office hours.

1. THE OPEN MARKET

In view to provide the new students with warm clothes and kitchen stuffs, the SCC, NSU and ISU organised a second hand market. Around one week before we were busy sending out messages and hanging posters to call people who had items that they were not using anymore to put it at the disposal of international students. The 27th October was the market day. There was a lot of people and when the shift of the ISU came, we had no costumer, and of course, no more enviable stuff to “sell”. However we were honoured by the visit of the Rector himself to the market room, showing by this the interest the administration put into our activities.

The open market gave more than two thousand Norwegian kroner, which has been given to the NGO “Doctors Without Borders”. The items left were delivered to “freetex”, the Salvation Army second hand shop.

2. THE FUCKING FAR NORTH PARTY

It was organized on the 4th of November with the contribution of the NSU, the SSU and the Tromsø University College. The party was consisting of a first part with a traditional costumes fashion show, a jam session ad the dancing. We obtained from Driv to have cheap beer (32 NOK) until 11 pm. The party was well attended with over 150 participants. There was good organizational planning prior to the part. The NSU board was in charge of paying al the expenses and will send bills to the other participant organization.

Those who took part in the fashion show (11 persons) will each receive a single cinema ticket as prize for participating in the show. However the ISU board has decided that next time, only a selected winner will get a prize.

3. OFFICE HOURS AND OTHERS TASKS

During the last month, the ISU board have reached an acceptable level of administrative duties fulfilment: respecting sharply the office hours, writing reports (secretary general and treasurer, etc.) They also provide on a weekly base, an itemised schedule of their time occupation, which enable the president to know when each board member is available for a task at the ISU office or elsewhere.
Nowadays, we are planning to organise a sledding party the Wednesday 22nd at the occasion of the disappearance of the sun. The Friday 24th, we want to organise a social gathering for the exchange students, leaving Norway soon.
