Orientering fra
ISU Student Board Spring 2005 Monthly report

29 April 2005

Past ISU activities
Easter Trip to Kautokeino (24 to 27 March) – President and Vice president, Priscilla and Gabriela were responsible for the arrangement of this trip. 22 students attended. Everyone indicated that the trip to Sapmi Land was most enjoyable especially the Ice Cinema, the reindeer and snow-mobile races, the Sami Grand Prix and the people of Kautokeino in general. ISU would like to make this an annual event and invites Sami and Norwegian students to join.
April Fool’s Competition –Organising officer, Evjenia, and PRO, Dragica, made this event possible and the chosen story was published in the Utropia. But it seemed as though people were shy to submit their stories. We hope that they would be more inspired to submit next time.
Sunday Sport – Organising officer, Abdul, has been doing a great job in making this event successful. He reports that the number of students attending has increased by 70%.

Debut-Uke
ISU successfully held the following 3 activities during Student Uke:
19 April-Hugin's Report-19h00 to 21h00-Driv
12 International students participated in this event. We presented a selection of poetry; song with guitar, flute and piano and story-telling. The next report will be held in the autumn semester.
28 April-International Cuisine – 12h00 to 13h00 – Main Cantina
This event was a great success. 12 countries were represented. About 130 people attended to taste the international cuisine. We would like to thank Studentsamskipnaden for allowing us to use the cantina.
24 April-Full Moon Gathering- Årdne, Sami Cultural Centre, 17h00 to 19h00
Some Russian students gave a brief presentation of their country with film, music, song and food. This was also well attended. Our intention is to have regular Full Moon Gatherings to make the culture of our different countries and regions known to students, both international and Norwegian, in order to demystify misconceptions and possible negative stereotypes.

Upcoming events
ISU MAY FAREWELL PARTY!
This party will be held on 28 May 2005.
Suggested theme: Gala Ball
Dress code: Formal
Organising officer, Melike, and the ISU board is responsible.
ISU Video – General Secretary, Dipesh, who is a master degree student in visual anthropology, is currently making a video of ISU in Tromsø. The final edition will be available in autumn 2006.

We would like the NSU to assist us in encouraging Norwegian students to join our events in the future.

Cooperation with student organisation on campus
ISU worked with SEMUT by submitting presentations from international students about their countries for SEMUT’s website.
We continuously work with the International Office, Line Vråberg, and the Student Welfare office, Catherine, in events like the international coffee hour and the International Cafés where we come and give insight of our countries to Norwegian students intending to study there.
ISU has joined the student body on campus in the organisation process leading to the 46664 Nelson Mandela Arctic Concert.
ISU also joined SAIH in their activities for the ‘Indigenous Women in Higher Education’ week
.
Thanks to the international coordinator, Åsne, we have become more active and involved with other student organisations on campus.

ISU Constitution Revision
The revision of the ISU Constitution has been completed. The amendments have been sent out to all ISU members. The General Assembly will be held on 19 May 2005 in Room 2.128 at 16:30 to 18:30. It is expected that a new revised and updated ISU Constitution will be accepted at the general Assembly.

Finance
Thanks for the annual transfer from NSU 50 000.
Due to current activities and events our current bank balance is 28 575, 14

We look forward to a good and continued constructive working relationship that would promote social and cultural cooperation on campus in the academic community and student life as a whole.
