Political Science is the study of the ideas and systems we construct for the purpose of establishing order and governance within and between peoples, societies, and states. Through the study of political ideas and theories, political systems including their construction, structures and functions, and different forms of governance and representation from the local to the national and international levels, the conditions for legitimacy and participation in politics come to light.

Through this program, students gain insights into policy and management, control and leadership from the local to national and global levels.

The program emphasizes the comparison of political systems throughout the world, uncovering the systematic variations found in their organization and function. Through the contributions of organizations theory we examine the influence of the organization of the political-administrative apparatus at the state and municipal levels on the content of public policy. Through the study of the actors, institutions and processes in all levels of politics we learn about the important relationships between political organization, decision-making processes and outcomes, from those in our own communities to those of the international community.
