Main research interest:
A long-term study of seabirds as top predators in the southern Barents Sea.
Among the topics studied are
* Prey availability as a regulating factor in reproduction and population dynamics. This topic addresses the effects of changes in Barents Sea capelin Mallotus villosus and Norwegian spring-spawning herring Clupea harengus stocks on the breeding ecology (e.g. food choice, chick growth, breeding success) and numbers of seabirds in northern Norway.
* Changes in numbers and distribution of cliff-breeding seabirds in northern Norway.
* Movements of seabirds as studied through ringing.
* Adult survival of auks
I am also building up a long-term database containing the arrival dates of spring migrants in North Norway. This is in collaboration with the local branch of the Norwegian Ornithological Society.
