Arctic-alpine vascular flora revisions, cytotaxonomy; phytogeography of Scandinavia and the Arctic. Consultant for the Museum Project.

Antarctic and bipolar terrestrial flora (Bouvetøya, Dronning Maud Land).

Research projects
Relatively thermophilous plants in Svalbard – ecology, taxonomy and Quaternary history (in cooperation with Inger Greve Alsos, Leidulf Lund).

Ecology of reproduction and seed bank studies in Svalbard (in cooperation with Inger Greve Alsos, Elisabeth Cooper, Sigmund Spjelkavik).

The flora of Tromsø municipality (under editing in "Polarflokken")

Vascular plant flora in areas of nature protection, Salten, Nordland (in cooperation with the Salten Association for the Nature/Åse Bøilestad Breivik, Mats G. Nettelbladt, Trond Skoglund, and others).

Vascular plant floristics, the island of Crete (studied 1995-2003, in cooperation with Torbjørn Alm, Mats G. Nettelbladt, Elisabeth Larsen, and others).
