Collections
English language and literature books are situated on level 3 at the HS-library. The books are arranged by topic, and are classified by the UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) system. (Classification key) Search Bibsys Ask (the Library Catalogue) or browse the shelves to find the literature you are looking for.
Reference books
This collection contains dictionaries, encyclopaedias, bibliographies and other reference works, and are situated on level 1 at the HS-library. We limit use of reference resources to the Library so that they are always available for quick reference. All books in this section are marked LS and are not for loan. Many reference sources are now available on the web, for instance Oxford Reference Online. All electronic reference works can be accessed through the library portal, Ofela or Bibsys Ask.
Journals
All printed journals are located at level 2 in the HS-library. The journals are arranged alphabetically, not by topic. A rapidly increasing number of full text e-journals are available to all staff and students, mainly through subscriptions funded by the Library. All e-journals are available through the library portal, Ofela. For our complete holdings, including printed journals, use the library catalogue, Bibsys Ask.
Databases and other electronic resources
The University Library of Tromsø has a wide variety of databases. Use the Ofela link to the right for a list of relevant databases for English language and literature. We recommend MLA and LLBA for language studies and MLA and Literature Online for literature studies. Bibsys Emneportal is a subject gateway to internet resources collected by library staff.
