Project objectives

The purpose with the present project is through a cross-disciplinary collaboration to integrate ecological and population genetic models into a common theoretical framework to derive general formulas for the rate of genetic drift in natural populations. We will then use this theoretical framework to
  • identify by comparative analyses characteristics associated with high rates of genetic drift.
  • experimentally examine using artificial selection whether we can predict quantitatively from our theoretical framework the responses in quantitative characters to a given selection regime.
