| Our main focus is on the biology of planktonic organisms and their interaction with the freshwater or marine habitats. Our methods cover observational, experimental and theoretical approaches. Observation of organisms mostly invisible to the naked eye, comprise both classical microscopic techniques and state of the art instrumentation for electronic image and particle analysis often including molecular probing. For larger organisms sophisticated hydro-acoustical equipment is used for direct unperturbed in situ observation of pelagic predators and their prey. Experimental studies scales from cultured organisms in controlled environment chemostats to ecosystem manipulation. The theoretical approach covers modern mathematical and statistical modeling techniques. |
