The FK partners involved in south-south programmes are invited to the South-South Forum 2006 from Saturday September 9th to Monday 11th. The participants on the South-South Forum will be taken on a trip to the western part of Norway, were they will be exposed to some of Norway’s most beautiful scenery, including the Geiranger fjord. This breathtaking fjord has currently been included in UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites.
The overall theme of the South-South Forum is the rapid change of economic and social standards in Norway during the 20th century. This theme has been chosen because both development and the raising of living standards are on the agenda in almost all the south-south partners’ home countries.
The South-South Forum will seek to inspire the participants in their development work at home through explaining the different factors that mattered when the living standards were raised in Norway. At the same time, FK wants to illustrate how fast the development process has been, what the costs have been and to explain what the current challenges are in Norway.
On our way to Geiranger, we will make a stop in the small town of Ålesund, which was exposed to a big fire in 1904. The participants will learn about how the citizens were able to rebuild the town and their homes.
We then continue our trip by boat, sailing up the beautiful Geiranger fjord. A local guide will give us an understanding of how Norwegians struggled to survive only a few decades ago. This will also be illustrated by a visit to the museum in Geiranger village and by a few small excursions in the area.
Program
The seminars of the forum will mainly take place on the second day. Please read the detailed program to learn about the themes and the names of those who will give the lectures.
On Monday September 11th we will return to Oslo and Gardermoen Airport by bus.
