This was the first FK conference arranged only for participants without partner representatives being present. The aim of the conference was to empower the participants and give them an opportunity to share experiences. One of the results was the decision to establish a network of FK:X participants in Central America.
“I want to carry on with the ideas and the work I started during the exchange to Norway” said one of the participants from Spor, a FK Youth program. That was exactly what the goal of the conference was about; empower the participants to continue changing. The participants want to continue to change their home communities and society, in addition to continue changing themselves.
“It has been very useful to get to know more people who share the same experiences as myself”, said a participant at the conference. “Sometimes it has been difficult to explain to my friends, colleagues or my family in Guatemala all the things I learned during the exchange to Norway. That’s why it is great to meet other x-participants from Central America.”
An important result from the conference was that many participants wanted to establish a network in Central America in order to exchange more of their ideas and their experiences. “A network of X-participants in the region could be an opportunity to share ideas on how we can participate and change the society” said the planning group of the conference. The participants want to use the FK:X web page in Norway in order to send out more information to each other and write more articles in Spanish.
The Norwegian participants were also happy to get the opportunity to meet and get to know the X-participants from Central America. One Norwegian participant said that “I still don’t know how it will be to return to Norway, but here at this conference I can learn about the experiences of the X-participants from Central America and how the home-coming has been for them”.
The conference for the Central American X-participants was the first conference arranged only for participants without partner representatives present. The program of the conference were made in a collaboration between FK Norway, a planning groups of six former participants; Lucio Chex, Carlos Palma, Miriam Aju, Juan Gabriel Roquel, Victor Chumil Chiroy y Emilio Xoquic Ajcalón together with two Norwegian facilitators; Pål Tanggaard and Marianne Haugh. The program was very participatory and diverse. The representative from FK Norway at the conference was Synnøve Simoni Seljeflot.
