Over 5000 students study at Bodø University College. The students have a very active and well-organised student environment thought by many to be the best in the country.

In addition to all the student activities, private and public institutions and voluntary organisations offer many different recreational activities which you can take part in, both in the fields of culture and outdoor activities, sports and associations.

The Student Welfare Organisation (SSIB)

An important part of student life is having good and varied provision of welfare services, such as housing, bookshops, counselling service and equipment for various recreational activities. The Student Welfare Organisation (SSIB) has plenty to offer you here as a student. The Student Welfare Organisation (SSIB) is the students' own welfare organisation for all students at Bodø University College and The Police Academy.  Here follows  a brief description of the services offered. Counselling Service

The counselling service is a special offer to all students at BUC and the Police Academy. The student chaplain and the social counsellor both work full-time.. The services provided are as follows:

* Individual counselling/support conversations

* Group counselling

* Help to get in touch with a doctor, psychologist, or other relevant health services

* Information about your rights

* Theme evenings

The Counselling Service also administers the Health Fund established by the Student Union.  Students can get some expenses refunded for dental treatment, purchase of glasses and physiotherapy. Counselling emphasises measures whicjh can prevent problems developing amomgst students and in the study environment thus enriching study quality for the individual student.

Student accomodation

Bodø is a city with good housing provision. The Student Welfare Organisation offers about 460 bedsitters and flats and there is in addition a large private market for rent of flats. The Student Welfare Organisation can help secure students accomodation - either a student flat or private accomodation.
