What you learn

Electrical engineering is an exciting field that explores, develops and applies  technologies based on electrical phenomena. It is a diversified and dynamic discipline that ranges from microelectronics, and electromagnetics to high-power technology. From development of tomorrow's information technology to automation and instrumentation of complex industrial plants. The electrical engineer is constantly revolutionizing our everyday life.

The concept high-tech is to a large extent based on innovations in the electrical engineering field. Within this discipline you have the opportunity to learn and master a wide spectrum of knowledge. The Master of Technology program in electrical engineering will provide you with solid knowledge in areas such as computer science, signal processing, automatic control, power electronics, microprocessor technology and programming, mechatronics and electrical drive systems.

You will also work in practical, industry oriented projects that provide you with further opportunities to deepen your insights into the field. Projects and the final Master thesis work are often done in cooperation with companies, which may bring you in contact with a future employer.

Continued education

The study program qualifies for Ph.D. studies. The Narvik University College offers such Ph.D. programs in cooperation with NTNU in Trondheim,  and other universities.

Central topics

Some of the central topics of the study program are: automation, digital signal processing, instrumentation and measurement systems, computer communication, real-time systems, power electronics, electrical drives. The program emphasizes use of modern microprocessor and information technology tools in all subjects.

One of the most modern laboratories for signal processing for electromechanical systems is at disposal. Use of the laboratory in projects and master thesis works is very popular among the students. The study program has an international touch, with good opportunities to spend some time abroad, in particular in connection with the master thesis work.
