My
research interests include first and second language acquisition, as
well
as comparative English and Norwegian syntax, both modern and
diachronic.
The focus of my research in all these areas is on the syntax of word
order.
At the upcoming GLOW XXX conference in Tromsø in April 2007, I
will be organizing a workshop on “Optionality
in the Input: Children’s Acquisition of Variable Word Order” (with
Merete Anderssen and Kristine Bentzen).
Tromsø
is a great place for research on language acquisition, and we have a
weekly research seminar, known as LARG - the Language
Acquisition Reading Group.
I
am an affiliate of CASTL - Center for
Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics. I am also involved in NORMS, Nordic center of
Excellence in Microcomparative Syntax, and the project ScanDiaSyn, which is a
collaboration of several research groups in the Nordic countries to
investigate syntactic variation in the Nordic languages.
At the University of Tromsø I
regularly teach courses in syntax and language acquisition. Here is a course description and a course
outline for my graduate course
in first
language acquisition, taught in the Fall of 2005.
