A student's final grade will be based on three components:

    1. (25%) The first 6 homework assignments
    2. (25%) The final 3 homework assignments (the project)
    3. (50%) The higher of the scores from the mid-term and the make-up mid-term exams

This course takes advantage of the new university reform by replacing the 4-hour final exam with a 2-hour mid-term exam, to be taken during a normal class meeting period. The reform also allows points to be given for homeworks and projects.

The philosophy behind this instructor's realization of the reform in IT2105 is quite simple. Students will spend 8-10 weeks learning key functional-programming concepts and Scheme syntax via extensive reading and programming. To insure that all students are up to speed with these concepts before beginning the advanced homework exercise (a project), a mid-term exam will be given in late October.

A second, make-up (final) exam will be given during the final class meeting in late November. A student's exam score will be the best of the scores received on the two exams. So students who do well on the first exam do not need to show up for the second.

    Individual work

The first 6 homeworks must be done and delivered individually.

You can work on the final 3 assignments alone or in groups of two, no larger.

You are free to discuss problems with your classmates, but keep the discussions at a high level. All students must produce the working code for the first 6 homeworks by themselves. A group delivery is requested for the final 3 assignments.

Direct copying of homework answers will result in an immediate failing mark (F) for the entire course. This pertains to the copier as well as the source!
