Facilities

All the supervisors work at the main campus, where the administration, the High Technology Building (HIB) and most of the research facilities are located at walking distance. The research vessels dock at HIB, and the smallest one can also dock at the Espeland Marine Biological Station, which is located in a fjord 20 km South of downtown Bergen.

Experimental laboratories

• Seawater laboratories with high degree of control of environmental variables for experimental work with fishes and other marine organisms ILAB2.gif (46474 bytes)
• Walk-in cool rooms for culture and experimental work with phytoplankton, larval fish and live feed production algekultur.jpg (15985 bytes)
• Quarantine units for studies with alien organisms, infectious diseases and xenobiotics
• Lab facilities for microbiological experiments and analyses
• Lab facilities for parasitological experiments and analyses
• Lab facilities for eco-physiology, including bioenergetics, osmoregulation, respiration, and nutrition.

HBmbs3.jpg (15503 bytes) • R/V "Hans Brattstrom" 24 m, 22 knots, for fjords and coastal waters.
• R/V "Haakon Mosby" 47 m, 12 knots, for oceanic waters. Both vessels are freely available to BATMARE staff and MCTS visitors, but must be ordered in advance. HIBogMosby.gif (95512 bytes)
Aglantha5.jpg (33232 bytes) • ROV "Aglantha", 4 m, can operate down to 2000 m. State-of-the art equipment.
• Automated plankton collecting system (natural feed for start-feeding of marine larvae)

Facilities for ecological modelling

• Supercomputers at the Paralab High Performance Computing Centre will be available to Marie Curie students through networking.

Supporting installations

• Trainees will be provided lab and office space close to their supervisors, plus access to a networking computer

• Access to analytical instruments
