The Programme for Cell Biology
- The Programme for Cell Biology pursues basic understanding of molecular aspects of biological phenomena that operate on a cellular scale. There is a focus on protein glycosylation, sorting and transport, as well as endocytosis and immunology.
The Gene Programme
- In the Programme for genomics, gene regulation and gene function the focus is on DNA repair, transcription factors, epigenetics and functional genomics, using mammalian cell lines, Arabidopsis, Drosophila and Chlamydomonas as model systems.

The Programme for Physiology
- The Programme for physiology has a focus on comparative physiology and neurobiology. Of particular attention are problems in the development of the nervous system, muscle biology, hypoxia tolerance in vertebrates, physiology of the senses, neuroendocrinology and cellular electrophysiology.
The Protein Programme
- In the Programme for proteomics, protein structure and function research is conducted mainly on proteins from microorganisms, e.g. the pili of human pathogenic bacteria, antimicrobial peptides, and metalloproteins.
