Doctoral students will work together with their subject groups at the Department, with supervisor(s) and with other doctoral students. Many will also work in co-operation with industry and with universities at home and abroad. Scientific work will be given the greatest possible freedom within the agreed formal framework.
Research work and publishing while studying is done in consultation with the supervisor(s). All data and results which are to be included in the study and which will be evaluated, must be openly accessible. Supervisors and students who encounter problems with confidentiality can contact Tore R. Jørgensen.
Doctoral students must submit a progress report on 1. March every year. Supervisors must sign the report for dr. ing students. Supervisors for dr.scient. candidates must submit their own report. The purpose of these reports is to have a routine for detecting situations which can be improved, and to have a method of formal quality assurance of the way the studies are being carried out. The reports are sent to the faculty offices. This is reported to the Committee for research and research training.

The applications forms should be filled, signed by the supervisor and sent to the faculty. Applications are dealt with on a regular basis. The purpose must be to improve the subject plan in relation to subject requirements, for example by including new subjects such as national research courses or courses at universities abroad which were not recognised when the study plan was drawn up. Upon recommendation from subject supervisors, such changes will normally be approved, as long as they do not:
